Photo Tip #14
Always make sure to look behind you when photographing, especially when watching sunrises and sunsets. The light could be doing amazing and unexpected things in the sky, or on an object or building, in the opposite direction.
Anza-Borrego Desert, California
This is a recent shot I took in the Anza-Borrego desert in California on Winter Solstice at sundown. I was engrossed in watching the light change in the western sky, which was looking very photo-worthy because a storm was coming, but this is what I discovered when I remembered to look behind me. The clouds developing to the east were taking on strange shapes and the setting sun cast an eerie, almost fluorescent, pink hue. It turned out to be a much more interesting shot than the one I was expecting to take facing west.
